Qualifications & Experience

  • The candidate must have a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field. A master's degree would be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ cognate experience with proven Project Engineering/Project Management experience.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Landscape Professional (CLP), Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH), or Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) are highly desirable.
  • Experience with landscape management software, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tools.

  • The Manager, Landscape and Environment will oversee and manage all aspects related to landscape design, conservation, and environmental sustainability within an organization.
  • The role will collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with environmental standards while fostering sustainable practices.

He/she is expected to;

  • Implement IPM strategies to control pests, diseases, and invasive species in a sustainable manner. Monitor pest populations, implement biological controls, and minimize reliance on chemical pesticides to protect human health and ecological balance.
  • Conduct soil testing and analysis to assess nutrient levels, pH, and compaction. Develop soil management plans to improve soil health, including amendments, aeration, and erosion control measures.
  • Develop restoration plans for degraded or disturbed natural areas on campus, and implement revegetation, erosion control, and habitat enhancement measures to restore ecological function and biodiversity.
  •  Manage the university's tree inventory, including inventory data collection, species selection, pruning, and hazard assessment. Develop tree preservation plans, urban forestry ordinances, and community outreach programs to promote tree health and canopy expansion.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and assessment activities to evaluate the effectiveness of landscape and environmental management practices. Monitor water quality, biodiversity, air pollution, and other environmental indicators to inform decision-making and adaptive management strategies.
  • Assess climate change impacts on campus landscapes and develop resilience strategies to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Incorporate climate-smart design principles, such as heat island mitigation, drought-tolerant landscaping, and floodplain management, into landscape planning and design.
  • Lead sustainability efforts related to landscape management, such as native plant landscaping, composting, and integrated pest management. Implement environmentally friendly practices to minimize resource consumption, reduce waste, and promote biodiversity.
