Description
Requirements
- Education: A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, or a related field is essential.
- Professional Registration: Professional registration with the relevant statutory body (e.g., Institution of Surveyors of Kenya - ISK) is highly advantageous.
- Experience: A minimum of 8-10 years of direct, post-graduate experience as a land surveyor on large-scale civil infrastructure or building construction projects.
- Technical Proficiency (Equipment): Expert, hands-on proficiency in operating modern survey equipment, including Robotic Total Stations, RTK GPS/GNSS systems, and Digital Levels.
- Technical Proficiency (Software): High-level proficiency in survey data processing and drafting software is mandatory. This must include AutoCAD Civil 3D and relevant survey data processing software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity).
- Codes and Standards: Strong working knowledge of local survey regulations and standard survey practices.
Responsibilities
Data Collection & Field Surveys:
- Establish, maintain, and verify the primary and secondary survey control networks (benchmarks, control points) across the entire project site.
- Conduct detailed topographical surveys of undeveloped land parcels to provide accurate data for master planning, infrastructure design, and architectural development.
- Carry out engineering surveys to support the design of roads, drainage, water, and other utilities, capturing all necessary features and levels.
- Perform pre-construction surveys to verify site conditions and existing features before works commence.
Construction & Setting Out:
- Provide precise setting out for all construction activities, including building gridlines, road alignments, infrastructure corridors, foundation locations, and finished levels.
- Work directly with the construction and contractor’s survey teams to ensure all setting out is accurate and clearly marked on site.
- Conduct periodic checks during construction to verify verticality of high-rise structures, alignment of infrastructure, and dimensional accuracy of works.
- Resolve any on-site discrepancies between design drawings and actual site conditions in coordination with the field engineering team.
Data Processing & Reporting:
- Process raw survey data using specialized software to produce clear, accurate survey drawings, reports, and digital terrain models (DTMs).
- Prepare and maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date digital and physical archive of all survey records, field notes, and final drawings.
- Perform volumetric calculations for earthworks (cut and fill) based on topographical and as-built survey data to support quantity verification.
- Conduct as-built surveys of completed works to create accurate records of the final position and level of all infrastructure and buildings.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Implement and manage a robust QA/QC program for all survey activities to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and precision.
- Regularly calibrate and maintain all survey equipment (Total Stations, GPS/GNSS, Levels) to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
- Ensure all survey and mapping activities are conducted in accordance with Kenyan survey regulations and international best practices.
