Overall purpose of the Role

The Program lead will play a critical role in developing and maintaining robust relationships with local government leadership at the county level, health facility and community level. They will also lead engagements with local implementing stakeholders such as NGOs and community-based organizations. They will act as the focal point for Medtronic LABS Kenya in support of program implementation in partnership with the local health leadership to ensure adoption of digital health tools for the integrated community based primary health care program in Kenya.

The program lead will be responsible for managing the roll out of the integrated primary health care digital health programs that aim to improve health outcomes in multiple disease areas in selected regions in Kenya. They will plan and execute the digital health programs while strengthening the health system users to deliver impact in alignment with the National level strategies for primary health care and digital health roadmap. They will also work in partnership with the country lead and peers that include program leads and capacity buildings leads to support the local government team in the deployment of health program while ensuring quality, effectiveness and sustainability

  • Lead in Local government level and Regional and County Health Management team representation and engagement.

  • Working closely with local authorities and county health management team to translate Medtronic LABS strategics through representation and engagement with Local health administration, Technical working group and stakeholders.

  • Support in ensuring that relevant program costs are incorporated in the budget planning at the county level

  • Support the integration of NCDs into the local primary health agenda.

  • Lead facility and community level engagement by working closely with the facility management team that includes the in-charge, administrator, health staff and community health workers (CHWs).

  • Maintain and deepen relationships with existing partners and cultivate new value add partnerships

  • Coordinate and oversee the planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of the projects within the program, ensuring quality, efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Managing the program budget, resources, risks and issues, and reporting on the program performance and outcomes to the relevant stakeholders.

  • Support the peer program leads and capacity building teams fostering a culture of collaboration, learning and innovation.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, sponsors, donors and beneficiaries, and representing the program in various forums and events

  • Required competencies

    • Academic qualifications in Public Health, Health Economics, or related field, required; Master’s Degree in related field, preferred

    • Strong stakeholder management capabilities to build and maintain robust relationships with Government, donors and implementing partners.

    • Communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders, facilitate group discussions and provide constructive feedback

    • Clear understanding of the primary health care national strategy and digital health road map in Kenya and experience  deploying digital health programs.

    • Experience in program level execution of public health programs in partnership with the local Ministry of Health and other stakeholders. Ability to execute and deliver effective training programs that align with the organization's goals and objectives

    • Experience working with local health ministries and ICT department

    • Ability to plan, execute and monitor complex projects with multiple stakeholders and deliverables

    • Strong communication and collaboration skills to coordinate teams, manage expectations and resolve issues

    • Proven success in programme leadership and coordination, monitoring, evaluation and learning.

    • Understanding of the health system delivery in Kenya and respective clinical workflows for primary health care

    • Data competency to help derive insights from the data to inform decision making at patient clinical management level, facility level and local county level.

    • Leadership and management skills to oversee the training team, allocate resources, monitor progress and ensure quality standards

    • Creativity and innovation skills to adapt to changing needs, incorporate new technologies and implement best practices in training

    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    • Flexibility with work schedule to allow for international calls

    Location: Kenya

    Travel: 50-60% (frequent travel to the respective operations regions and some international travel)

    Contract Type: Two (2) year fixed term contract (potential for renewal subject to performance and funding availability)
