Description
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent qualification.
Registered and licensed to practice medicine in Kenya by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
At least 2 years of post-internship clinical experience.
Previous exposure to oncology, internal medicine, palliative care, hematology, or related specialties is an added advantage.
Demonstrated interest in oncology and cancer care.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and commitment to patient-centered care.
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems is an added advantage.
Responsibilities
Conduct patient assessments, medical history reviews, and physical examinations.
Support the diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up of oncology patients.
Monitor patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive treatments.
Identify and manage treatment-related complications and adverse events.
Participate in inpatient and outpatient oncology care services.
Ensure continuity of care through timely patient reviews and follow-up appointments.
Patient Counseling and Support
Educate patients and caregivers on disease conditions, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
Provide counseling on treatment adherence, symptom management, and supportive care.
Assist patients and families in navigating the cancer care pathway.
Promote cancer prevention, screening, and early detection initiatives.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, radiologists, pathologists, and other healthcare providers.
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and tumor board meetings.
Coordinate referrals and consultations with other specialists as required.
Clinical Documentation and Quality Assurance
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records.
Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, treatment guidelines, and patient safety standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
Research and Professional Development
Participate in clinical research, data collection, and oncology-related projects where applicable.
Stay updated on advances in oncology care and treatment guidelines.
Attend continuing medical education (CME) sessions and oncology training opportunities.
