Village Enterprise’s mission is to end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship, innovation, and collective action. By empowering women, refugees, and youth to launch small businesses and savings groups, our cost-effective model provides dignified and sustainable pathways for individuals to lift themselves and their families out of extreme poverty for good. To date, Village Enterprise has trained 396,872 first-time entrepreneurs, 80% of whom are women, and supported the launch of 120,609 businesses and 9,309 Business Savings Groups (BSGs). These efforts have positively impacted 2,478,065 lives across Africa. With operations in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, and partnerships in other sub-Saharan African countries, Village Enterprise continues to expand its reach. As we scale our impact, our aim remains ambitious yet achievable: to lift 20 million people out of extreme poverty by 2035.

Project and Position Overview:

DEPGM (Digitally Enhanced Poverty Graduation Model-DEPGM) project provides an innovative blueprint that will drive rapid scale of VE program, while maintaining same or even higher level of impact. The Product Scaling Officer plays a crucial role in driving the expansion and growth of the VE business portfolio. Working in rural communities in Kenya, the PSO will be directly responsible for launching at least 300 businesses per year. In its approach, the project heavily utilizes digital technology in a new way that will ensure exponential scale of VE’s poverty graduation program, thereby helping to support tens of thousands of ultra-poor households to improve their income and well-being simultaneously within a short time frame. S/he will represent Village Enterprise’s interest at the local government and community level and will take on any other responsibilities delegated by the supervisor or Country Director. Meaningful increase in the wellbeing of participant households – transformed lives (increased HH income, increased savings, increased net assets, increased dietary diversity, increased women’s agency and improved perceived wellbeing).

Deliver on project activities and outputs

Design and implement a project work plan that integrates digital technology as a core means of delivery.
Launch 300 businesses and 20 savings groups by the end of each fiscal year.
Ensure that strategic programmatic priorities (SPPs) such as youth, gender and climate-smart adaptations are effectively integrated throughout program implementation.
Ensure all training, coaching and mentoring activities exceed the minimum program quality standards.
Use adaptive management data for decision-making and implement strategies that drive business health and impact at household level.
Document learning and incorporate analysis and lessons learnt into new strategies and program adaptation work.

Collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Work with the different stakeholders to map out geographic villages for implementation, considering all constrains and effectively communicating them.
Maintain regular reporting to the 1:300 steering committee, ensuring all deliverables and milestones are met within prescribed timelines.
Coordinate with relevant partners and stakeholders, including private sector actors, and facilitate meaningful linkages with the communities.
Work collaboratively with other functional teams (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, People and Culture, Product and Service and the Finance teams) to drive program impact.
Represent Village Enterprise at community meetings, events, and at the government level when needed.
In close collaboration with the Country Director, take full responsibility for the delegated budget management on programmatic aspects of the program and contribute to decision making, ensuring that value for money can be effectively demonstrated.
Work closely with the Finance team to ensure timely disbursement of funds to entrepreneurs.
Provide reporting to the F&A team on disbursements and any grants that go unfunded.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or steering committee.

Qualifications:

A Diploma in community development, business management, education and or any other course related to rural development.
IT knowledge is an added advantage.
Must have strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
Experience in leading teams, teaching, training, community service and working in rural set ups.
Served in a comparable and relevant position of mentoring and Coaching for a minimum period of three (3) years.
Shown merit and ability in work performance and results.
