Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in dialysis or nephrology nursing (recent experience preferred).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid practicing license.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, blood-borne pathogen control, and emergency dialysis procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in dialysis machine operation, vascular access cannulation, and water treatment monitoring.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary surgical environment.
  • Ability to prioritize care, act decisively in emergencies, and maintain meticulous documentation.
  • Flexibility regarding shift patterns and clinical areas.
  • Experience mentoring or teaching junior staff is an advantage


Responsibilities

Clinical & Dialysis Care

  • Perform within standards of nursing care for dialysis patients, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care programs.
  • Maintain high standards of nursing care using a systematic, evidence-based approach.
  • Be responsive to patients’ conditions and adjust care plans accordingly.

Dialysis Procedure Management

  • Prepare dialysis delivery systems, dialysate baths, and dialyzers; ensure all mandatory machine alarm tests are completed.
  • Cannulate vascular access (fistula, graft, or catheter) aseptically and monitor for complications.
  • Assess, prepare, and care for dialysis catheters, applying sterile dressings and performing access surveillance for early signs of infection or failure.

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Adhere to dialysis protocols, infection control procedures, and hospital policies.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure all documentation complies with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in clinical audits, KPIs, and quality improvement activities.
  • Support hospital accreditation processes and comply with all defined standards and procedures.

Safety Management

  • Promote patient safety, including infection prevention and blood-borne pathogen precautions.
  • Identify and report clinical or operational risks in the dialysis unit.
  • Take immediate action in emergencies and respond to adverse events during dialysis treatment.
  • Ensure all dialysis equipment, consumables, and medications are checked, functional, and safe to use.

Communication & Coordination

  • Collaborate with nephrologists, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families throughout dialysis care.
  • Provide structured clinical handovers to relevant healthcare providers.
  • Address patient concerns and questions about dialysis treatment, medications, and home care.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Dialysis Unit Manager regarding patient care, workflow, and operational issues.

Problem-Identification & Escalation

  • Identify changes in patient condition or potential complications early during dialysis.
  • Take appropriate initial action within scope of practice.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk cases promptly to the Dialysis Unit Manager or relevant physician.
