About KEPSA


Kenya Private Sector Alliance is the apex body for private sector in Kenya. KEPSA brings together local and foreign business associations, federations, chambers of commerce, professional bodies, corporates including multinationals, large and medium-sized corporates, SMEs and start-ups from all sectors of the economy, representing over 1 million businesses locally and over 45million businesses globally through the membership of ICC-Kenya Chapter. We enable these businesses to speak with one voice when engaging Government, development partners and other stakeholders on cross-cutting policy issues affecting private sector development and we implement programs that ensure the social-economic development of the country including women and youth empowerment.


KEPSA serves as a federation of over 80 Associations and professional bodies. In the EAC region, KEPSA serves as the national focal point of the East African Business Council and engages closely with peer apex bodies in the EAC region to resolve any emerging business issues as well as to promote trade and investment.


Program Description


KEPSA together with the Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy and with funding from the Mastercard Foundation, has partnered in the implementation of components of the Ajira Digital Program with an aim of enabling over 1 million Kenyan young women and men to access dignified and fulfilling work through digital platforms over three years. 

 

In 2016, The Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Information, communications and digital economy developed and established the Ajira Digital Program to bridge the gap between skills demand and lack of jobs. The program aims to introduce young people to digital and digitally-enabled work and provide the tools, training and mentorship needed for young people to work and earn an income with dignity. The program also seeks to contribute to the attainment of the country's vision 2030 objective of becoming a globally competitive knowledge- based middle-income economy in an increasingly digital world.


The Ajira Digital Program aims to introduce young people to digital and digitally-enabled work and provide the tools, training and mentorship needed for young people to work and earn an income with dignity achieving the country's objective of a globally competitive knowledge-based middle-income economy in an increasingly digital world. The program vision is to position Kenya as a choice labor destination for multinational companies as well as encourage local companies and public sector to create digital work and thus catapult Kenya onto the Global map, recognized as a Freelance hub. The Ajira Digital Program covers five programs across the supply, demand and linkage aspects of the job’s ecosystem: 



Supply: Provide access to training and mentorship (work readiness and up-skilling opportunities)


Program 1: Operationalization of existing Ajira Youth Empowerment Centre (AYECs).


Program 2: Institutionalize Ajira Digital Clubs and curriculum in higher-level learning institutions (TVETS and Universities)


Demand: Increase local availability of dignified work


Program 3: e-Government: Public Sector providing digital work


Program 4: Private sector engagement: Support of digital platforms Linkage: Enhance central linkage/information repository for all stakeholders & beneficiaries


Program 5: Revamp of the existing Ajira Digital Portal (https://ajiradigital.go.ke/) to offer relevant and timely labour information to benefit the ecosystem needed to grow digital and digital-enabled opportunities.


Job Summary 


The human resource intern will provide essential support to the Digital Labor Platforms, Business Process Outsourcing (BPOs) and Job Boards, focusing on enhancing engagement with stakeholders, conducting research, and facilitating digital job linkages. The intern will contribute to strategic and operational initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration between digital labor platforms, job boards, and relevant stakeholders. This role involves conducting research
on BPOs, digital labour platforms, job boards to enhance outsourcing of digital and digitally- enabled work to Ajira Program Alumni.

  1. Conduct comprehensive research to map existing Human Resource and digital labor
    platforms, job boards, and relevant business intelligence sources 

  2. Engage with stakeholders to generate leads and cultivate partnerships within the digital
    labor ecosystem. 

  3. Identify and compile a database of digital workers and job seekers, ensuring accurate
    information management. 

  4. Facilitate the registration and verification process of digital workers on designated
    platforms, ensuring alignment with project objectives. 

  5. Maintain an internal database of project partners and track progress achieved in engagement activities. 

  6. Conduct ongoing research on emerging trends in the digital labor market, providing
    insights for program adaptation and enhancement. 

  7. Develop awareness campaigns and engagement strategies tailored to target audiences,
    facilitating seamless onboarding processes. 

  8. Prioritize partnership development and coordinate partner meetings and onboarding drives accordingly. 

  9.  Assist in the execution of program series within the project, focusing on human resource
    management and stakeholder engagement. 

  10. Lead efforts in data collection, management, and analysis to assess project impact and
    generate insightful reports.


Expected Output


The human resource Intern is expected to contribute to the expansion of digital labor opportunities by fostering collaboration among stakeholders, facilitating effective data management, and delivering impactful reports on project outcomes.


Qualifications and Experience


The ideal candidate for the Project Intern position should possess:·        

  • A minimum of a university degree in Social Sciences, Business Management, Human Resource, Project management or a related field.
     
  • Knowledge of Business Process Outsourcing, digital labor platforms and job boards, with experience in business development and networking.
     
  • Proficiency in project management, including program series coordination and human resource management.
  • Strong data collection, management, and analytical skills, with the ability to generate actionable insights. 

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, coupled with a proactive and collaborative approach.

  • Capacity to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, with knowledge of Kiswahili being advantageous.

Candidates with the following qualifications and experiences will be given special consideration:

 

  • Completion of Ajira Digital Program trainings and certifications.  

  • Experience working as a freelancer and familiarity with BPO, online and digital platforms. 

  •  Graduation from the Presidential Digital Talent Program. 

  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
