Education:

  • The candidate must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in the following field of study, economics, demography, sociology, and related social sciences, in a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a recognized university
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (1) and (2) above), if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Other Eligibility Requirements

  • Demonstrate interest in the field of development.
  • Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in English.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Some experience working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity, is an asset.
  • An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a UNFPA staff member is not eligible for an internship with UNFPA.


Responsibilities
  • Support to Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
  • The intern will assist the programme team in strengthening monitoring, reporting and results tracking by:
  • Supporting UNFPA staff and implementing partners (IPs) in the preparation and updating of Annual Work Plans (AWPs) aligned with donor agreements and the country programme results framework.
  • Assisting in the compilation, organization and analysis of programme information, including the preparation of tables, summaries and basic statistical data for programme planning and reporting.
  • Supporting the tracking of programme implementation and results, including updates to programme dashboards and bilateral donor-funded project results frameworks.
  • Assisting in compiling and documenting programme achievements reported by implementing partners through work plan progress reports.
  • Supporting the preparation and consolidation of quarterly, annual, UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), and donor programme implementation reports.
  • Contributing to programme monitoring and evaluation processes in line with Results-Based Management (RBM) principles, UNFPA guidelines and donor requirements.
  • Supporting the organization of field monitoring visits and technical missions, including preparation of briefing materials, documentation of findings, and follow-up on agreed action points.

Knowledge Management and Programme Documentation

  • The intern will support knowledge management and documentation of programme results and learning by:
  • Assisting in documenting programme implementation, including key achievements, lessons learned and emerging good practices.
  • Supporting the maintenance and regular updating of programme documentation.
  • Assisting in compiling and synthesizing information for country office reports, briefs, technical notes and knowledge products.
  • Identifying and compiling relevant data, research and programme information to support reports, presentations and advocacy materials.

Programme Coordination and Administrative Support

  • The intern will provide general programme support to facilitate effective programme implementation by:
  • Assisting in tracking action points from programme meetings, monitoring visits and missions, and supporting follow-up where required.
  • Supporting the coordination and documentation of programme meetings, workshops and events.
  • Providing administrative and programme support to the team as required and performing other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
