The project engineer – mechanical and electrical works will provide technical support to the design and implementation of infrastructure projects, working closely with other departments to ensure Nexus Green delivers its projects industriously and efficiently.




Responsibilities

The project engineer – mechanical and electrical works will provide technical support to the design and implementation of infrastructure projects, working closely with other departments to ensure Nexus Green delivers its projects industriously and efficiently.




Contract Formation


  • Technical support to the review and preparation of bills of quantities for mechanical and electrical works.



  • Review of engineering drawings.



  • Technical support to the preparation and or review of construction specifications.



  • Preparation and or review terms of reference (ToR) for consultancy services.



  • Assembly and or review of contract documents for mechanical and electrical works and consultancy services.



  • Progress reporting


Detailed Design


  • Collection and or review of field design data prior to commencement of the detailed design process



  • Technical support to ESHS teams during site selection and

    preparation of ESHS documentation for approval.



  • Liaison with and coordination of the technical inputs from surveyors, engineers, and ESHS personnel.


  • Review of feasibility and detailed design reports.


  • Ensure design specifications are accurately and timely shared with the logistics department to ensure timely procurement of supplies or inputs.


Documentation and Confidentiality
  • Ensure that project-related documentation is appropriately saved on the company’s cloud system to enable easy retrieval when required.

  • Minute taking for technical meetings as and when required.

  • Ensure that Nexus Green confidential and privileged information is not shared with anyone without the project manager's approval.

Works Supervision and Compliance

  • Participating in technical site audits and site meetings.


  • Ensure site compliance with an approved construction methodology to ensure conformance with the project Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environment and Social Management Plan (ESMP).



  • Conduct pre-commission inspections/trials for mechanical and electrical installations and ensure close out of snag lists.



  • Inspect and test electrical equipment, components and assemblies.



  • Diagnose and troubleshoot the root cause for all the faults identified on installations, and supervise the repair/replacement/modification of the installed components and systems.



  • Supervise the installation of new electrical equipment, and wiring of the associated control systems.



  • Prepare specifications for alternative equipment, components/spare parts and sub-assemblies, and compiling requests for approval.



  • Liaison with the quantity surveyor to ensure accurate remeasurement of all mechanical and electrical components of the works as the construction works proceed.



  • Joint review of the mechanical and electrical engineering component of the interim payment applications with the quantity surveyor.



  • In liaison with the quantity surveyor, review, negotiate and conclude offers from NGL’s mechanical and electrical sub-contractors.



  • Prepare cost estimates for proposed mechanical and electrical variations in liaison with the quantity surveyor, and advise on their impact for the project manager’s decision-making.



  • Preparation of O&M manuals for the installed systems, and conducting training to the project beneficiaries.



  • Updating and execution of all approved modifications, variations and supplements to the technical documentation and specifications.


Reporting and documentation

  • Maintain a detailed and accurate record of meetings, agenda, meeting minutes, follow-up/action points, including details of meetings held and or cancelled.


  • Deliver documents to all the interested parties and similarly receive documents from both external and internal parties;


  • Ensure that follow up of document approvals by concerned authorities is done timely and consistently and keep the Project Manager updated as required.


  • Responsible for ensuring all project documents and records are maintained;


  • Any Other duties as assigned by Nexus Green Ltd

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience in water supply, irrigation or other large infrastructure projects will be an added advantage.

  • Must have worked in A design consulting firm for a minimum of 2 years

  • Must have worked on a minimum of 5 water supply and/or irrigation projects with a total cost of 500M - 1BN UGX each

  • Must be registered with the Engineering Registration Board or your registration should be in the final stages

  • Evidence that you have worked in a formal office environment and not only on a consultancy basis

  • Familiarity with works scheduling using Microsoft Projects or any other similar software.


  • Development of bills of quantities, drawings and contract specifications for infrastructure works, including preparation of engineering cost estimates for works implementation.



  • Familiarity with the contract formation process for consultants and contractors.



  • Experience with preparation of feasibility studies and detailed designs. Ability to demonstrate experience on water supply and or irrigation projects will be an added advantage.



  • Experience with works supervision. Ability to demonstrate experience on water supply and or irrigation projects will be an added advantage.



  • Experience with quantity surveying during and after works implementation.



  • Ability to demonstrate a practical understanding of the linkage between Environmental, Health, Safety & Social (ESHS) related issues and the implementation of infrastructure projects.



  • Experience with the preparation and or review of interim payment applications for infrastructure projects.



  • Experience working with other technical and non-technical professionals to collectively deliver on single or multiple projects.


  • Experience with tender preparation for works

  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision;


  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent contacts with colleagues, government officials, community representatives and contractors;



  • High level of self-motivation



  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise work schedules



  • A good working knowledge of MS Office applications required
