A music business and artistic development incubator program that focuses on enabling music industry practitioners to Filter, Order, Refine and Master the artistic and business skills required to build a sustainable music enterprise.

The cohorts comprise passionate individuals across seven disciplines within the music ecosystem (Artists, Artist Managers, Publicists, Event Producers, Music Producers, Sound Engineers & Lighting Engineers).


At its core, the program focuses on inspiring, empowering and connecting participating cohorts to upskill, upscale and commercialize music through its thoughtful intervention, the program aims to make a significant contribution towards overarching vision of powering music success in Africa.


About the role :

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the communication strategy to enhance the visibility and reputation of the program.
This role will oversee all aspects of communication, including media and public relations, social and digital media, internal communications, stakeholder engagement, and content creation.

Additionally, the Communications Manager will lead and manage the communications team, ensuring effective collaboration to achieve the organization's communication goals.

About the role :

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the communication strategy to enhance the visibility and reputation of the program.
This role will oversee all aspects of communication, including media and public relations, social and digital media, internal communications, stakeholder engagement, and content creation.

Additionally, the Communications Manager will lead and manage the communications team, ensuring effective collaboration to achieve the organization's communication goals.



Develop and Implement Communication Strategies:

  • Create comprehensive communication plans that align with the company’s mission and goals.

  • Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.

Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.

  • Oversee the development of press releases, pitch stories to media outlets, and organize press runs for artists and program participants.

  • Prepare media kits, organize press conferences and coordinate interviews with regards to the program

  • Write and distribute press releases, manage media inquiries, and handle publications and publicists

  • Organize and coordinate press conferences, media events, and interviews with program participants.

  • Prepare and support the program team for any press runs, podcasts, and other media engagements.

Social Media and Content Management:

  • Develop and execute a social media strategy to increase engagement and reach across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Newsletter, and SMS.

  • Monitor social media channels, respond to interactions, and create and curate engaging content for these platforms.

  • Write and produce a range of content, including website updates, newsletter articles, promotional materials, and blog posts, to inform and attract participants.

  • Collaborate with the creative team to produce compelling visual content.

  • Manage the content creation team, ensuring timely and high-quality output that aligns with the overall communication strategy.

Brand Management:

  • Ensure the company’s brand is consistently represented across all communication channels.

  • Enforce brand guidelines to maintain a cohesive and professional image

  • Monitor public perception and manage the company’s reputation by responding to feedback, addressing issues proactively, and mitigating potential crises.

  • Conduct regular brand audits and analyze market trends to refine and strengthen brand positioning.

Campaign Management:

  • Plan and execute communication campaigns to promote events, projects, and initiatives.

  • Develop targeted marketing strategies to reach diverse audiences, leveraging various channels such as social media, email marketing, and partnerships

  • Coordinate with artists, clients, and production teams to ensure cohesive and impactful campaign messaging.

  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of campaigns

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, alumni, cohort participants, and community leaders.

  • Develop and manage internal communication strategies to keep staff informed and engaged.

  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to stakeholders.

Crisis Communication:

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans and an escalation matrix

  • Act as the primary point of contact during a crisis.

Audience Research

  • Gather and analyze feedback from cohort participants to improve future communication strategies and enhance the overall experience.

  • Conduct surveys, focus groups, and interviews to gain insights into audience preferences, behaviors, and satisfaction levels.

  • Collaborate with the program and creative teams to implement research findings into actionable improvements.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to continually refine audience research methodologies.

People Management

  • Manage team workload and resource allocation to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.

  • Foster open communication and collaboration within the team and with other departments to ensure alignment and cohesion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within the music or entertainment industry.

  • Proven experience in media relations and social media management.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and persuasive messaging for various audiences.

  • Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and a passion for storytelling for impact.

  • Experience with Adobe Suite of creative tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or Canva

  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, comfortable asking questions and diligent follow up; proven project management skills.

  • Must be collaborative and have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with an ability to identify, communicate and resolve problems

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
