Job details

Contract Type

Description

The Field Operations Performance & Learning Lead serves as the performance intelligence and early-warning function for Field Operations.

The role ensures that operational risks are detected early, performance signals are correctly interpreted, and actionable insights are surfaced before issues escalate into material delivery, financial, or carbon verification risk.

Responsibilities
1. Performance Intelligence & Early Risk Detection (Primary Focus)

Act as the structured daily monitoring function for Field Operations.

  • Conduct daily analysis of operational dashboards (survival, productivity, contracting, carbon payment readiness, resource efficiency, SLA compliance).

  • Detect KPI deviations, SLA breaches, and early deterioration trends.

  • Differentiate isolated execution failures from systemic performance drift.

  • Maintain a rolling Field Operations Risk Heat Map across regions and clusters.

  • Produce structured Daily Flag Briefs for the Director of Field Operations.

  • Prepare Weekly Risk briefs highlighting:

    • Top enterprise-level operational risks

    • Emerging trends

    • Escalation status

    • Required decision points

2. Escalation Governance & SLA Discipline

Strengthen issue resolution quality and cross-functional responsiveness.

  • Maintain a live escalation tracker with defined ownership and timelines.

  • Monitor adherence to SLAs and resolution quality.

  • Escalate high-risk or stalled issues appropriately.

  • Identify recurring operational failures across clusters.

  • Surface chronic structural bottlenecks affecting:

    • Farmer onboarding and compliance

    • Garden monitoring integrity

    • Contract documentation completeness

    • Carbon payment readiness processes

    • Supply and resource flows

  • Recommend structural or process redesign where repeated failures indicate systemic weakness.

3. Field Learning & Operational Systems Diagnostics

Lead structured field-learning cycles across the full delivery system including staff behavior, farmer practices, garden compliance, and operational processes.

Structured Field Reviews

Conduct a minimum of two field visits per month to assess:

  • Supervisor and direct report performance

  • Farmer engagement and expectation alignment

  • Garden establishment quality and protocol adherence

  • Compliance with planting, spacing, monitoring, and documentation standards

  • Process execution and data integrity

Comparative Performance Analysis

Compare high- and low-performing clusters to identify:

  • Behavioral and supervisory drivers

  • Farmer compliance and adoption gaps

  • Garden-level quality differences

  • Process design or execution weaknesses

  • Structural or resource constraints

Distinguish between training gaps, incentive misalignment, execution failure, and system design flaws.

Insight & Replication
  • Document replicable high-performance practices across staff, farmers, and processes.

  • Produce a concise Monthly Operational Learning Insight Brief (1–2 pages).

  • Recommend system-level improvements and support structured performance interventions.

4. Executive Performance Synthesis & Forward Risk Forecasting

Shift performance governance from reactive reporting to predictive risk management.

  • Present concise weekly performance risk summaries.

  • Provide forward-looking 2–4 week delivery risk forecasts.

  • Highlight potential survival, compliance, contracting, or carbon payment readiness risks before materialization.

  • Track implementation and measurable impact of agreed performance interventions.

  • Monitor reduction in performance volatility and recurrence of systemic failures.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Business, Operations, Forestry, Agriculture, or related field.

Experience
  • 4–6 years in operational performance analysis, field operations, monitoring, or systems improvement.

  • Experience working with multi-level field teams.

  • Strong dashboard interpretation and KPI management experience.

Key Competencies
  • Strong analytical and systems thinking capability

  • Ability to interpret operational data beyond surface-level reporting

  • Risk detection and pattern recognition capability

  • Structured problem diagnosis and root-cause thinking

  • Clear executive communication (concise, decision-oriented briefs)

  • High personal discipline and follow-through

  • Ability to operate without formal authority while influencing outcomes
