To ensure that the Electrical elements in the power plant run smoothly to generate power. He checks
electrical machines and machine components, tests their efficiency and makes repairs wherevernecessary and suggests improvement to machines for better performance. The Electrical engineer shallhave a wide engineering knowledge base and keep abreast with the latest developments in the field toenable him/her to evaluate the condition of electrical machines, diagnosing problems and where possiblepropose improvements changes.

Education and Professional Requirements

An upper second Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related field.
Post graduate diplomas and certificates in other fields of engineering such as mechatronics; automationetc. is an added advantage.

Related Job Experience/Qualification:

A minimum of 3 years working at a power plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant, a major
repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position

1. Conferring with other engineers and personnel of the power plant to implement operating procedures,
resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information for improvement of maintenance.

2. Researching and analysing design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate thefeasibility, cost and maintainability and applicability of such proposals.

3. Apply knowledge of engineering principals to design, evaluate and make changes to installations with aview to improving performance or providing a solution to a problem- engineering solutions.

4. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and come up with

recommendations for maintenance crew.

5. Oversee installations of Electrical plant and equipment, oversees all routine maintenance and repairs at

the power plant and makes reports to the Maintenance Manager for the planning of long outages andoverhauls.

6. Training entry level maintenance staff


7. Maintains supplies inventory by checking electrical material stock to determine inventory levels;

anticipating needed supplies;

8. Writing monthly system performance reports for allocated systems


9. Compiling work packages/maintenance procedures for all allocated systems

10. Serves as a key resource for safety related issues with the goal of meeting/exceeding OSHArequirements for a safe workplace.

11. Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
