Academic/professional requirements and experience for promotion/appointment

• An earned PhD or equivalent earned doctoral degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognised university;
  
• At least three (3) years of continuous teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer or six (6) years of research/industry experience;
  
• A minimum of four (4) publications in reputable refereed journals or their equivalent since last promotion or appointment to the position of Lecturer/Research Fellow;
  
• Supervised at least three (3) ‘ ‘master’s students to completion as a Lecturer/Research Fellow;
  
• Registered and a member in good standing with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  
• Attracted research or development funds as a researcher in at least one project since the last promotion or appointment as a Lecturer/ Research Fellow;
  
• Demonstrated evidence of service to the University and community.
  

• Teach and facilitate learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other learning situations as assigned.
  
• Participate in developing, administering, and marking exams, assignments, and continuous assessment tests.
  
• Develop learning materials, prepare schemes of work and maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
  
• Provide advice, guidance and feedback to students to support their academic progress and refer students to the support services as appropriate.
  
• Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of high-quality curriculum.
  
• Participate in supervising and assisting undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research work.
  
• Carry out research and produce publications and other research outputs in line with personal objectives agreed upon in the performance appraisal plan.
  
• Participate in writing research proposals and applying for research grants.
  
• Contribute and participate in departmental and faculty seminars to share research outcomes and build interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
  
• Contribute to departmental, faculty and/or University-wide working groups or committees as and when requested to do so.
  
• Undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff development and training activities to update and enhance skills.
  
• Maintain proper records of ‘students’ examinations, assignments, and continuous assessment tests, and ensure they are keyed into the examination records management system on time.
