About the role

Varaha is on a mission to expand its footprint in Africa, and we are looking for a visionary leader to take charge as our Regional Director - Africa. This role is not just about leadership; it’s about being a trailblazer, an architect, and a driving force in shaping the future of Varaha’s operations on the African continent. As the Regional Director - Africa, you will have a pivotal role in defining our strategy, operational priorities, and the direction we take in Africa. You will essentially be a founder of Varaha in Africa.

Location :- Anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa (Preferred: East Africa - Kenya/Ethiopia)

This role is not just about leadership; it’s about being a trailblazer, an architect, and a driving force in shaping the future of Varaha’s operations on the African continent. As the Regional Director - Africa, you will have a pivotal role in defining our strategy, operational priorities, and the direction we take in Africa. You will essentially be a founder of Varaha in Africa.



What you will do

  • Strategy Development: You will be the chief strategist, responsible for identifying and prioritising expansion into specific countries, devising the go-to-market strategy, and determining the interventions and initiatives to focus on. Your decisions will be instrumental in allocating our resources effectively in Africa.

  • Sales Leadership: Lead the charge in driving sales efforts, from identifying promising business opportunities to negotiating contracts and nurturing key client relationships.

  • Team Building: As an entrepreneurial leader, you will build, lead and nurture a high- performing Varaha Africa team, instilling a culture of excellence, innovation, and shared Vision.

  • Partnership Cultivation: Forge strategic partnerships with organisations, governments, and stakeholders that can amplify Varaha’s presence and impact in Africa.

  • Brand Establishment: Establish and enhance Varaha brand presence and reputation across the continent, solidifying our position as a leader in nature-based carbon projects among industry, governments, funders, landholders, and ecosystem actors. Act as Varaha ambassador in Africa, representing the organisation at industry conferences and events.

  • Close Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Varaha founding team to ensure alignment with the organization's global mission and goals.

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Preferably an MBA or other relevant Master’s degree.

  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in a high-pressure business role, with a strong focus on Africa.

  • Strong, extensive relationships with industry stakeholders and decision-makers in Africa.

  • Proven track record of strategic thinking, negotiation, and problem-solving.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong passion for sustainability and climate action.

  • Deep knowledge and experience in agriculture, climate, or ag-tech sectors, through a senior role at a startup, management consulting at a top-tier firm, or holding a management position at an agricultural company.

  • Willingness to travel across Africa.

Varaha is an end-to-end carbon project developer focused on nature based solutions such as regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, mangrove and biochar projects that support smallholder land stewards at scale.
