Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Trade Finance Lead to join the business function in our Fintech startup. This role will focus on driving business growth and expanding our trade finance services with an emphasis on the Agricultural export sector. The Trade Finance Lead will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and will work closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Customer Success, Risk, Legal and Operations to ensure a seamless and integrated customer experience. Preferred candidates would have a solid grasp of export/import and global trade dynamics including common operational and financial risks gained from relevant prior experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong academic and professional track record.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in trade finance.
  • Experience working in a high-growth startup environment is a plus.
  • Strong business judgment and decision making skills
  • Excellent communication, business writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Competency in researching sales leads, cold calling, forming partnerships, and presenting pitch documents.

  • Identify and originate trade finance opportunities across Africa, with a specific focus on the Agricultural export sector.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of business segments related to export/import to identify and engage new opportunities.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and implement strategies to optimize efficiency in trade finance processes.
  • Analyze customer patterns and behaviours to support deal closure and accelerate sales.
  • Identify new product offerings and enhancements to existing ones, adding value and driving sales growth.
  • Develop pitch documents and proposals to prospective clients
  • Support due diligence processes by reviewing submitted materials, identifying information gaps, and following up with customers.
  • Customer acquisition and deal origination and sourcing
  • Serve as an internal customer representative, collaborating with various teams to meet client needs and align trade finance operations with other departments.
