Background


The Promotion of electromobility in Kenya project, is financed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is meant to improve the framework conditions for the systematic introduction of climate-friendly electric mobility in Kenya and enhance necessary capacities of key actors.
The project will target 1) development of strategies, regulations and standards; 2) training, knowledge sharing and stakeholder coordination and 3) Support for pilot applications and dissemination of Electric mobility activities. This is in line with the Kenyan government’s prioritization of electric mobility as one of its key mitigation actions under the National Climate change Action Plan.


The project 

IMPROVE (Introducing Measures, Pathways and Roadmaps for Optimizing Vehicle Efficiency and Electrification) supports its partner ministries in Colombia, Kenya, Morocco and Thailand
to develop policies and regulations that support the transition to cleaner and more energy efficient vehicles. The project will target 1) Identification of policy options; 2) Data collection and baseline development; 3) Stakeholder engagement and consensus building; 4) Technical studies and policy design and 5) International learning.


Rethinking Transport supports the development of positions and strategies for the sustainable transformation of the transport sector on the African continent. Through workshops, transformation labs and a fellowship programme, the project will bring together stakeholders from academia, civil society and the private sector and facilitate an exchange on the most pressing issues surrounding sustainable mobility in Africa.

A. Responsibilities

The key responsibility of the Interns is to support the Project Advisors to ensure
delivery of key project indicators in the activity areas mentioned above.
The interns will carry out the following specific tasks:

B. Tasks

1. Technical Support and Advisory

  •  Provide support in organizing and coordinating field studies through consultants (identification of consultants, guiding consultants, preparing & reviewing of progressive and final consultants’ reports)

  • Support research on sustainable mobility technological approaches and their applications in selected vehicle categories.

  • Support coordination and alignment with government/regulatory institutions, private sector,

  • development partners, NGOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders.

  • Support project monitoring, evaluation and knowledge
    management.

  • Support the above-mentioned projects in administrative work and execution of project
    mandates.


2. Communication and networking

  •  Collect, collate, process, and distribute relevant information, monitor communication and interaction between various stakeholders through analyses of the media, direct dialogue,
    participation in meetings, trainings, workshops and seminars

  • Document key lessons learnt from various project activities.

3. Event & workshop management

  • Plan event from start to finish according to requirements, target audience and objectives

  •  Coming up with suggestions to enhance the workshop’s success

  •  Supporting the preparation of budgets and ensuring adherence


Other tasks

  • The interns undertake any other additional duties at the request of the project team to
    support the management of the project, including administrative tasks and support towards projects within the transport sub-cluster.


C. Required profile Qualifications and skills:

  • University degree/diploma in transport, engineering or environmental science
    or urban planning or related qualification

  •  The candidate must have completed their course/graduated within the last 12 months at the time of application and consideration.

  • Demonstrated Experience/Interest in sustainable mobility.

  • Previous experience in working with diverse stakeholder groups would be an added advantage.


Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Competency in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Office 365, MS Teams, MS SharePoint, MS

    BI etc)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills Strong research skills

  • Good initiative, creativity and design skills

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Excellent command of English

  • Experience in coordinating international events will be considered a strong asset.


D. Timing and Duration of Assignment

  •  The duration of the internship will be 6 months for each candidate.


E. Duty station

  • The interns will be based in GIZ Offices in Nairobi
