across the region GIZ supports the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the EAC in attaining their development goals
The GIZ Water Programme has been providing technical and financial support to the Water
sector in Tanzania for over 30 years. The areas that GIZ – Water Programme has been supporting include providing policy advice, capacity building, institutional strengthening, water resources management, addressing climate change, and improving access to water supply and sanitation.
The GIZ project ProWaS – “Water Security and Climate Resilience in Urban Areas in Tanzania” is hosting a new implementation approach for GIZ that is piloted in Tanzania and Colombia.
This approach is Water4Future, “Unlocking water for a climate-resilient future” (W4F), which is an approach that strengthens the capacities of developing countries to implement integrated solutions and concrete measures to adapt to climate change, positioning water as a key resource. The approach seeks to improve water security and climate resilience through innovative approaches that articulate evidence-based climate risk analysis, digital tools, and financing strategies. Key areas of action (intervention) are (i) developing integrated adaptation solutions for climate resilience of the water sector and (ii) identifying financing requirements for water-related adaptation measures.

Responsibilities
Supporting GIZ Water4future project team on activities related to project pipeline information at sub-national level
Supporting activities to conduct sub-national climate risk and water resource assessments
Supporting the identification and priotization of climate-resilient water investment opportunities
Assisting in participatory stakeholder consultation workshops to develop project pipelines for climate-resilient water adaptation projects
Participate in preparation or adjustment of detailed project design, and selection of Financiers and financing criteria analysed
Support preparation of full investment proposal/documentation for financiers in cooperation with the consultant, GIZ Water4future project team and relevant stakeholders
Supporting activities to prepare preliminary technical and financial assessments for ready-to finance projects
Support activities on cost estimation, financing plan, and a financial gap-analysis for the project pipe-line
Provide support on data collection and analysis for both monetary and non-monetary costs and bene-fits of the two ready-to finance projects
Participate in preparation of detailed financial model, including the social discount rate to estimate the economic internal rate of return (EIRR) and economic net present value (ENPV) project
Support cost-benefit analysis (CBA) activities including climate resilience benefits
Support all activities related to identification and engagement of private sector actors, designing and implementation of matchmaking events, development of promotion materials, documenting discus-sions, partnerships, and investments
- Prepare activity reports, subsequent communication contents for social media and periodic artic-les/Newsletters
Current PhD or Master’s students at the research stage (coursework/dissertation classes complet-ed).
Academic background in climate change, environmental engineering/economics, water resources management, natural resources management and assessment, project planning and management, or a related field.
Basic experience or clear interest in project design, planning and management; economic analysis; natural resources assessment; teamwork and multi-stakeholder coordination; and logistical organi-sation of meetings, workshops or trainings.
Strong interest in water resources management and climate resilience, with a demonstrated will-ingness to learn and contribute.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Good proficiency with ICT tools and standard computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Word
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team and provide dependable day-to-day technical and coordination support
