On the high-frequency use of our transportation service, SafeBoda is providing value to consumers, our drivers, and passengers, with additional financial services, payments, and other on-demand services to keep Africa moving forward. Based in Nairobi, Kampala, Nigeria, and Barcelona, we are a venture-funded company that is already having a huge impact on millions of people in East Africa.
What we are looking for
SafeBoda is looking for a Head of SafeBoda Labs to build the SafeBoda Labs function at the company in order for it to ensure it continues to be one of the most impactful companies in Africa. SafeBoda Labs will be creating new and impactful business lines, measure and evaluate SafeBoda’s impact and raise impact capital to deepen and grow this work. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and start-up skills, excellent fundraising and stakeholder management skills.


  • Build SafeBoda Labs from scratch : fundraising, stakeholder management, support innovation, and build our data and insights on our impact story.
  • Independently build and close grant fundraising opportunities , from foundations, governments, and individuals across the globe who can support SafeBoda Labs.
  • Execute the strategy which will demand a number of skills such as grant writing, data gathering, data analysis and compliance and financial reporting.
  • Design data collection and execute analysis to tell our impact areas that will include our work on road safety, financial inclusion, government support, technology education and clean energy.
  • Lead the efforts in telling our impact story , working to enhance and build SafeBoda’s brand and our learning insights across our markets in Africa and worldwide.
  • Report directly to the CEOs on SB Labs in forming and executing the strategy
  • Proven leadership and management experience is essential - building SB Labs from scratch will require strong leadership and managing multiple deadlines with significant pressure.
  • +5 years of professional experience, with strong knowledge of fundraising, business development, government relations, and the social impact ecosystem.
  • Strong start-up leadership skills are a must for this role.
  • Getting things done independently - you have an entrepreneurial mindset, applied at scale and through working with others. Ruthless about the prioritization of goals, strategies and individual tasks.
  • Can speak the language of business and nonprofits/social enterprises - we are looking for someone with strong business confidence and fluency, you can communicate financial sustainability, return on investment, impact per donor capital investment, among other areas.
  • Passion for and demonstrated experience in the social sector more broadly is important.
  • Proven business planning and management skills - exhibit the ability to navigate ambiguity, juggle multiple tasks, think independently and problem solve. A structured hypothesis-driven approach to problem-solving is a must.
  • Strong academic performance with at a minimum a completed Bachelor/Undergraduate degree with excellent grades.
